As Senior Editor, this position manages the development, scheduling, coordination, and production of Young Adult and Middle Grade original graphic novels and works closely with many internal departments and creative teams to produce publications on time and with accuracy. Therefore, solid communication (both written and verbal), multi-tasking, and organizational skills are critical to success.  

All original content will strive to address themes of racial diversity, sexual and gender politics,  social politics, biography, historical content, STEM, marginalized groups, and middle grade/YA  development. 

This position also focuses on titles published within the book market; knowledge and experience of book trade publishing is desired.


  • Vast knowledge of successful intellectual properties in today’s popular culture.
  • Manage 6-8 original graphic novels including but not limited to: 
    • Developing story ideas and proposals with writers, hiring creative teams, and working with Business Affairs to negotiate publishing contracts with talent.
    • Ensuring creator approval at all stages, including proposal, script, cover art,  solicitation copy, line art, color art, and final lettered proofs. 
    • Manage all other tasks associated with producing titles that meet the approval of creators and preparing titles for printing. 
  • Attend regular Editorial meetings and maintain constant status updates of all your projects for the Editorial Director. 
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with creators, retailers, press, and co-workers. 
  • Establish and implement systems for departmental workflow. 
  • Train and supervise junior editorial staff in best practices to ensure content is on-brand and consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone. 
  • Brainstorm with the Editorial department on new directions or creators for new Original titles, and potential new licenses to pursue. 
  • Present titles and provide feedback to other creative pitches in the Editorial Review Committee meeting. 
  • Leverage market knowledge and industry relationships to identify and develop new projects and business opportunities. 
  • Support promotional initiatives of Marketing and Sales departments. 
    • Assist Marketing with mapping out creative direction and strategy. 
    • Provide marketing materials as needed. 
  • Other duties as needed. 


  • A minimum of 5 years of industry or related-industry experience as a  screenwriter or story writer 
  • 4-5 years of experience working in an Editorial department 
  • Bachelor’s degree or comparable experience 


  •  Excellent verbal and written business communication skills and ability to multitask.
  • Robust knowledge of the book market and book distribution. 
  • Knowledge of and passion for the entertainment industry and comics.
  • Thorough knowledge of the story-development process. 
  • Project management skills to manage editorial schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to lead and inspire large teams of creative personnel to achieve publishing goals. 
  • Experience with print publishing. 
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities. 
  • A willingness to embrace change and adapt to strategies on the fly.
  • Acute attention to detail. 
  • Superior line- and copy-editing skills. 
  • Strong Mac skills, including Word, Excel, Keynote/PowerPoint, and Google Suite.  Experience with project management software, such as Asana, is a plus.
  • Comfortable with acting as the company’s spokesperson and advocate in media appearances, interviews, sales calls, trade shows, etc.
